UnitingCare Canberra City Church
UnitingCare Canberra City Church is the Social Service arm of the City Church. It is dedicated to working for the most vulnerable people in Canberra. Among the services organised by UnitingCare are:
- Teams from the congregation visit men and women in the prisons on a regular basis.
- The Early Morning Centre provides breakfast Monday to Friday and other services to people who are homeless or are in vulnerable to homelessness.
- UnitingCare auspices the United In Care group formed by guests of the Early Morning Centre in order to give voice to homeless people.
- UnitingCare assisted in the establishment of the anti bullying in the workplace service WAVE.
Working closely with like minded services and at the request of United In Care, UnitingCare is working to establish a safe shelter for people sleeping rough in Canberra. It is also working to provide a safe place for people sleeping rough to store their belongings, and their documentation in particular, to save them having to carry all of their belongings with them all of the time.
It is UnitingCare’s philosophy to work with like minded groups to establish or run new services for vulnerable people in Canberra as the need is seen.
